Prevailing wage

The prevailing wage is the hourly wage legally established by the government for each of the different craft and trade classifications that may be used on a public works project. A public works project is almost any construction project that is funded by public money- your tax dollars. Colleges, government offices, hospitals, public housing, transportation facilities and street or highway projects are public works.

Each job classification has an established wage rate and may have an established benefit package. Your employer must pay you no less than the specific wage rate that has been established for your job. Also you are entitled to know where your benefit packages are being paid. To pay you lower wages, you may be hired as an apprentice. Under prevailing wage laws, you are not a apprentice unless you are enrolled in a federally certified apprenticeship training program.

Becoming a union member

We are working to guarantee every Ironworker in our area the full reward of union benefits and union representation for a better standard of living.

To reach this goal, we are actively making an effort to help every individual working in our trade become a member of our union. Contact the union representative listed for more information.

Frequently asked Questions?

How do I become an Ironworker?

Give us a call and we will put you to work as soon as possible. Depending on your qualifications, you will be given journeyman status or slotted in our 4 year apprenticeship program.

Will I work 52 weeks a year?

In some cases you may. As you know construction work is up and down. It's easy to say that the more qualifications you have and your willingness to work hard helps further your work opportunities. Also, if you are willing to travel there are always areas in the country you can work.
